Friendly Community Choir ... Open to All!
Earthly Voices are a friendly community choir, meeting weekly in Cobham Surrey.
No auditions to join, your enthusiasm for singing is our only requirement.
We are a choir with roots in the acapella tradition; so in our concerts we sing without folders - our aim is to sing in a fresh and engaging manner which brings out the joy and the pathos in the music and songs we are performing.
We have 2 formal concerts every year at Christmas and in Summer
plus a number of ad-hoc concerts during the year.
These include singing at Hampton Court Palace for their Sing500 celebrations,
Christmas concerts at the Rose Theatre in Kingston for community choirs
and the Elmbridge festival that takes place in Hersham in February.
We also do more informal concerts at local National Trust venues and local residential homes.
We have an eclectic repertoire which includes many genres:- Pop, folk, jazz, gospel, classical, opera, and world music.
Our musical director is Emily Leather, Emily has worked in opera and musical theatre as well as several community choirs.
MEMBERSHIP DETAILS
We welcome singers from all backgrounds regardless of gender, age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation,
disability, spiritual beliefs or financial standing.
Provided there are places available, free taster sessions are available the first 2 weeks of term.
For new members the first half-term, comprising 6 weeks rehearsal sessions, is free of charge.
Currently the choir is full, but if you are a tenor or a bass we would be glad to hear from you as there may be places available for those parts.
We don't have auditions for joining the choir, and you don't need to be able to read music.
Our approach is to recognize that everyone has their own learning style
and to support both those who prefer learning by ear and those who prefer to use scores.
To that end we provide word sheets, scores and audio files for all the songs.
We very much enjoy our concert performances and they often provide a highlight to the term but it's not obligatory to participate - we understand that some singers have less time than others to prepare and take part.
We meet during term time on Thursdays from 8pm to 10pm.
You'll find us at the : Parish Hall, Church of the Sacred Heart, 25 Between Streets, Cobham, KT11 1AA
