Emily Leather - Profile
Originally from Chester and now based in London, Emily has enjoyed a varied career as a voice coach and musical director for choirs, opera companies and theatre groups. She is also an arranger and composer of songs, and has written 2 operas for children. She graduated from the University of Leeds, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Some of the different musical areas she has worked in are:-
• Community Choirs
Music director for Earthly Voices and ‘Lemon Tuesdays’, a ladies choir in Rickmansworth.
Also Emily has a long running association as deputy choir leader for the following choirs:
– Maggie’s, Charing Cross Hospital
– Mind and Soul, Maudsley Hospital
– Micro-Rainbow International, LGBT Refugee choir
• Opera
Worked with a range of companies including the ENO, Garsington Opera, Opera Up Close, and Portland Opera in the States, both as a Musical Director and vocal coach. Emily is an Associate Artist of the Royal Opera House and has worked with their resident Youth Opera Company for many years.
Opera and Opera education is a particular passion for her.
• Musical theatre
She has had a long association with the Ocean Theatre Company in Ascot; working as Musical director. This company works with 14-18 year olds, teaching musical theatre and staging productions twice a year.
Past shows include Sweeney Todd and Les Mis.
• Community music
Southbank Centre Voice Lab project.
This includes Assistant Music Director for The Big Wedding Weekend, and the Wow Festival at the Royal Festival Hall.

Actors Touring Company - Musical director, orchestrating the use of community choirs with theatre pieces.
